Is this a trick question?  It's a reprint.   :?

This took entirely too long (over 5 years) to find.  Seller claims it's from Larry Elmore's collection (same seller that just sold a $1200 SW Masters box set).  I've got no clue about the provenance, but the SW looks legit and the BIN was less than the last one I lost in open bidding, so calling this a "fun find".

Nice.  You now have something to wear while larping in the backyard with her.   :D
Did everything come intact from the set?  The box looks to be in great condition.

Unfortunately, no. I was happy to get the box. I already had the helmet.
I have the "hand defender set" though  :D

There must have been some interesting conversations in marketing over whether the word 'gauntlet' would appeal to consumers.

The age of children these were targeting, it was a good call... AND it saved all the parents who would have no clue as well.   :D

"Daddy what's a gauntlet?"
"Uh... Charlie that's a belt."

I didn’t know they made a “big box” version of this until recently.
Found it while looking thru the TSR archive.

It was just an oversized box.

I purchased one of each when they first came out.  It was really weird, but they were Silver Anniversary, so I picked both up.

Here's a listing:
