bclarkie wrote in New Candidate: Silliest Auction Price of the Year: My overall point is that this does not exclude the final price from being ridiculous.

That's where we can agree to disagree I hope. I'm OK with ridiculous, especially if it's something I collect or plan to sell. There are a few things I have collected for years that the Market has pretty much bottomed out on and probably never will recover. That feels worse, not that it really dissuades me from keeping them, monetary value isn't everything.

Anyway, good talking with you bclarkie, hope you have a good New Year

Ooookay, if the Ref sheets are worth $1500, what would the seller ask for the whole box?

Answer, he's got a few of the booklets up for 1/10th the price.

Gotta love the description: "D&D001"

"Okay, we turn the corner and see a Purple 'WHAT' !?!" . . (the DM rolls a 20 or so he says) . . It all went black right after that.

Looks like somebody was looking for a golden ticket to a certain chocolate factory.

I think 1st print supplements will get more expensive over time. They are just cool. New classes, first scenario, new realms. They really are the genesis of a lot of content. And no, I wouldn't pay that either.

The best part is the description:

"Great collection of first edition books and three sets of dice, one a complete set in purple! These are well-used and all but one of the hardbacks are in a plastic dust jacket. I checked out eBay and there's nothing like this collection anywhere close to this price!"

You don't say...

Okay, not sure if this is shady, silly, or the seller just didn't feel they needed to provide more evidence for a rare book.

BIN of $200 for a possible 1st print in used, damaged, well-loved condition?

Love is priceless, so technically that makes $200 a bargain.

This lot seemed to go pretty high to me; other than the Spellcaster's Bible in it, did I miss anything else interesting?:

I counted about 75 different items in this lot.  If there's no significant smoke or water damage, then placing most items at $10 each and three or four items at $25 (like Spellcaster's Bible, Night Below boxed set, and Temple of Elemental Evil), you've got a fair price if someone is keeping most of it.  It would be work to make money if bought by a re-seller.  The feedback score alone would give me pause.  The chances of items (especially the boxed sets) being damaged in shipping is high.   :?

Truth is worth finding and life is too short to work for money.
