Hey Foulfoot, (and any other interested parties),

I've been having trouble with the forum some times with the little pictures on the forum (Smileys, New post notices.. any PhpBB driven graphics and couldn't figure out why.  I think I have now.

I subscribe to 'threads' so I get an email notice when a new message is posted that I've posted in (which is most of 'em ;) )

When I come in via the link from Email non of the pics work.

When I come in from just The Acaeum and click through the library, everything works.

I'm not sure WHY that is, but thought I'd share it as an insight.

I've tried it on my work and home PC and it's consistent behavior.

(Win XP Pro, IE 6.026, fully patched OS)

Not a big problem but thought it was worth mentioning.

Thanks!

-Jon

Same here - from multiple computers & versions of IE (5.5 & 6.x).  Definitely an issue.  Not a show-stopper, but annoying.  You can get the pics back but you usually have to log out, close the page, and go back in.  The background is lost on occasion too.

It's not related to a firewall either.   Could it be a configuration option for the board?

Me too.  Reported it around the beginning of May.  After a couple of weeks it stopped.  Long enough to let Scott know it was working again.  But then it was back.  And has been ever since.  But didn't bother reporting it again as I thougt it was only me suffering the problem.

I never noticed that - so I did some experimenting.  I use Netscape and it doesn't happen.  I just tried it with IE and I experience the same issues you describe.

Solution?  Screw microsoft and their crappy pop-up advertisers!

I've noticed it too -- and I have no idea what's causing it.  Unfortunately, the software is only updated infrequently, and they tend to make minor window-dressing enhancements only.

If anyone stumbles upon a solution, please let me know --

Okay - I haven't found the exact solution, but I think I can shed some light on what is happening.  I don't receive notifications when a reply is posted, but I do receive them when someone PM's me.

The last PM I received contained this link:

Page Not Found

The above link is exactly the same as when you log in from the acaeum site to check your messages EXCEPT for the fact that it contains a : (colon) after The Acaeum:  -   If you highlight the above link and remove the colon and then "re-send" the URL it displays correctly.  The same colon issue occurs on the forum pages.

When I use Netscape and click on the link from my email box, it displays the URL without the colon (even though there is a colon listed in the email link).

Foul, I am not sure the purpose of the colon?  Can the link be sent without it?  That would appear to resolve the issue.  If it can't, then IE needs to behave like Netscape and resolve the link and remove the colon at the same time.

Good work man.

That does the job for me.

Remove your colon.

That's the same problem we're having with the registration e-mail.  :(  Some browsers are unable to digest it at all.

Good detective work!  I'll cruise the forum support board to see if there's a fix or a workaround for this.

OK, should be fixed now.  A completely innocuous configuration setting was missing (even though the documentation clearly states to leave that field blank).  Whatever.

Besides the good news on that issue, correcting this seems to have had the additional benefit of speeding up all the graphics in general on the forum.  I'm not noticing any more slow-loading buttons, which was becoming annoying.

If anyone continues to experience issues with this, please let me know!

That's the ticket!  Seems to have resolved all of the issues & the buttons fly!

Excellent!  Thanks... Glad my gripe led to a solution!

So give yourself a big
